Sharp Sand is a gritty and rough sand used in construction as a bulking agent to make concrete and mortar. The sharp and angular shards can be as large as 3mm, making it coarse and rocky. The larger surface area of the sand helps it bind extremely well to form a solid surface that is durable and long lasting.
The quality of our sharp sand is second to none, so you can have confidence using it across your building projects. Most builders use it as a general use sand because it can be used for structural applications, drainage and mortar.
Also known as grit sand or river sand, sharp sand is the best choice when you need to mix concrete and mortar. The large shards bulk out a wet mix extremely well, helping to extend the life of other materials. You can also use sharp sand as a subbase for paving, so long as it is compacted so it doesn’t wash away over time.
Because sharp sand is more coarse than building sand, it can be used with other sands to prevent cracking during the drying process. If you intend to make sand mortar, we recommend mixing fine sand with coarse sand. The coarse sand will prevent shrinkage and cracking without affecting the quality of the finish.
We supply sharp sand in bulk bags containing 800kg to 850kg of product. We are a leading supplier to the construction industry. Our customers trust us because our products offer a consistent quality and excellent value.
