Blue Slate is one of the most popular decorative surfaces for gardens, paths and drainage areas. Slate chippings are a recycled material and a little goes a long way because of their size and flat shape. These 20mm and 40mm chippings are ideal for covering large areas and making paths that have a rustic and charming character.
Blue Slate is the perfect material for paths and walkways because the stones are long and flat. They don’t lock together, but they do have uniformity. This creates a relatively steady walking surface, and a beautiful one too. The only place you wouldn’t use slate is driveways because slate is likely to crumble under the pressure of a car.
Slate is also a popular material for establishing borders and planting areas. Slate is an excellent weed deterrent, yet it allows water to flow through to the ground. It has very low porosity, so water tends to run straight off it and down to the ground (this is why slate is so popular as a roofing material).
The larger size of this Blue Slate – 20mm to 40mm – makes it ideal for covering large outdoor areas. You can cover plain soil with Blue Slate to give ordinary spaces character. We also like to see it used as a decorative material around water features and ponds.
We supply Blue Slate in bulk bags containing 800kg to 850kg of product, and you can choose between 20mm or 40mm chippings to suit your project.
