Black Basalt is one of the most hardwearing gravels you can buy with similar properties to granite. It’s also one of the most popular. It’s a volcanic stone with lots of depth, with the dark grey colour and rough texture giving it great character. You can use it as a decorative or functional gravel across your outdoor project.
Black Basalt is a unique choice. It darkens when wet to almost black, giving you the opportunity to create contrast with lighter stones and features in your garden. The colour is very reminiscent to clean tarmac but with more depth. It looks fantastic when spread evenly which is why it’s so popular with homeowners.
Black Basalt Gravel is most often used to establish driveways and paths because the stones lock into place with weight. When you drive over the stones, they compress and find gaps to create a flat surface. The 20mm size of these rocks also means they won’t get caught in your tyre tread, or easily ‘kick up’ when setting off.
You can also use Black Basalt Gravel as a decorative material around water features. It’s suitable for ornamental water features and fishponds. It’s fish-friendly and the surface is a good place for algae to develop. If you’ll be using it in a pond, you should rinse the product first to remove the outer accumulation of rock dust.
Our Black Basalt Gravel is available in bulk bags containing 800kg to 850kg of product – ideal for driveways and larger landscaping projects.
